Canadian singer Lucas DiPasquale began turning heads last year when he uploaded a video performing an acoustic remix of hits ‘Road Affi Tek On’, ‘Ravin’ and ‘Only Man She Want’ by dancehall artiste Popcaan.

The video, which was viewed more than 150,000 times in a month on YouTube, gained attention worldwide and was even featured by renowned US music magazine The FADER.

UK DJs Ras Kwame and Seani B also raved about Lucas and gave their stamp of approval by tweeting the viral video on their social-media pages, exposing it to their sea of fans.

With such support for Lucas, it was only a matter of time before he became appreciated at the birthplace of dancehall, Jamaica.

Lucas was interviewed on several local media outlets such as Nationwide 90 FM, CVM TV’s Onstage, among others.

Popcaan also showed his support by tweeting Lucas’ remix to his social-media fans. He also invited the youngster to share stage with him at Jamaica’s Dream Weekend 2014.

Lucas later received favourable attention for his acoustic remix of Sean Paul’s Like Glue and Popcaan’s Everything Is Nice; efforts which were later picked up by international stations MTV and SBTV.

Now developing his own catalogue of music, Lucas is working with Stephen McGregor and will release a debut EP in coming weeks. He is also promoting a single, Do It Like, featuring Kardinal Offishall, Stylo G and Konshens.

Do It Like was released in June 2015 and has received support from MistaJam on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Capital Xtra. Lucas stopped by Tuff Gong earlier this year, where he recorded an acoustic session at the property of reggae legend Bob Marley.
