November 11, 2021 | Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

Vybz Kartel, the international acclaimed dancehall superstar who has been incarcerated being convicted for murder is implicated in ordering the murder by phone from prison of another artiste.

This has come out of the current trial of thirty three (33) alleged gangsters including one female. This trial is one of the largest anti gang trials in Jamaica and likely the region.  This is a big test for the new anti gang law.  This alleged gang is led by a male said to be one Blackman.  The trial is being held at the Supreme Court (High Court) and is being presided over by the Chief Justice Bryan

Sykes.

The artiste who was the alleged intended target has survived the attack having been hit on the head.

Appeal

There is an appeal being processed as a result of an application by Vybz Kartel’s legal team. We await the outcome of that appeal.  There were many years of delay due to the delayed production of transcripts of the rather lengthy trial.

Commentary

It is unfortunate for Vybz Kartel to be fingered in this anti gang court trial accused of be involved in criminal activity.  We are not casting any aspersions or making a judgement. We thought Kartel was so reformed that his name would not be called in this side of antisocial life. We hope this allegation is false. If not we are most disappointed and amazed that someone so talented as Kartel continues to be seen as sliding down the slippery slope.
