Chris Brown Locks in X Release Date

091213-music-tweets-week-chris-brownAfter a few delays, Chris Brown has landed on a release date for his upcoming X album. The project is due out Nov. 19, which he announced by simply tweeting, “111913,” late Monday (Sept. 30).

His sixth release, featuring the likes of Kendrick LamarLudacrisBrandy and Rihanna, was originally slated to drop in the summer, and pushed back due to management issues. X’s lead single, “Fine China,” dropped in March, but failed to chart high on the Billboard Hot 100. Two follow-up singles, “Don’t Think They Know,” which samples Aaliyah, and the Nicki Minaj-assisted banger “Love More,” peaked at No. 89 and No. 31 respectively.

Given his well publicized bad behavior, love triangles and legal drama, X marks an opportunity for the Virginia native to show his growth, as he told the Los Angeles Times in May. “X is almost the reject,” he said “It’s who I am now, transitioning as a man and not trying to focus on the past stuff and trials and tribulations. It’s the unspoken voice of me.”

Explaining the concept to MTV News a month earlier, he pointed out the title’s significance not as a variable but the Roman numeral 10, symbolizing the years he’s been in the industry, as well as his birth date (5/5/89).

When he’s not crafting math equations for his own project, Breezy manages to squeeze in a little musical side work, the latest of which teams him with E-40 and T.I. for “Episodes,” off the Bay Area general’s forthcoming The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 4, 5, & 6 album.
