Dr. MichelleG wants you to Get With The Fix

Dr. Michelle ‘MichelleG’ Gill is a Guyanese who grew up in the US and obtained a PhD in Human Services, practicing in the field of academia, teaching at 3 universities in the Social Work Departments and is also a government Child Abuse Investigator. She runs her own non-profit organization that hosts an annual Back-To-School Drive, providing educational resources to under-privileged families and donating to Jamaica and Guyana as well.

Based in New Jersey, MichelleG never knew she’d enter radio until calling into Roadblock Radio and speaking to DJ Banky Hype on air one day in 2014. Afterwards, she thought she’d try this and asked him if she could be a part of the station. He said yes! She co-hosted with DJ Naturalist first then Banky.

MichelleG hasn’t looked back and has enjoyed interviewing individuals worldwide, including Morgan Heritage, Minister Marion Hall, Shinehead, Pressure Busspipe, Mighty Crown, I-Octane, Denyque, Tifa, Nadg, Jahazeil Myrie, Jinyus, Ginjah, Queenie, Jamaican kickboxer Ruel, Shaniel Muir, victims of abuse, cancer survivors, and others. Futuristically, she’d love to interview Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Dexta Daps, Spice, Nadine Sutherland, Sean Paul, Masicka, Tarrus Riley, Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Idris Elba, Oprah Winfrey, Gabrielle Union and persons who’ve paved the way for us.

During the 2020 pandemic, MichelleG started Get With The Fix (GWTFRadio based on the needs of our Caribbean community and because she wanted her own platform to fulfill those needs while still in control of her voice, informing the world about what’s happening, showcasing our music and giving upcoming DJs the opportunity to have a station to call home. Today, as the CEO of GWTF Digital Caribbean Radio Station, she manages 25 DJs and hosts residing in America and Jamaica.

One day, MichelleG will get the station onto the FM dial, continue working in the child abuse arena, teaching and giving back to her community through her non-profit. Her message to any woman who wants to follow in her footsteps is: “You can do it, don’t listen to the noise just follow your passion, there will be obstacles along the way but don’t watch no face, pick yourself up and keep pushing, imagine if I had listened to those women who told me that I couldn’t do this.”

Though it hasn’t been easy for her, MichelleG isn’t a quitter. “It has been rough because I had people who wanted me to quit, people who told me I wasn’t nobody, people who wanted to see me fail and when I say people the majority were women, but I’m not a quitter and I absolutely love everything that I do so I kept going and kept pushing and through it all, I’ve conquered it all, though the hate still exist,” she explained, not letting negativity discourage her.

MichelleG is also grateful for the cheerleaders in her corner, believing in her throughout her career and giving her their support.
