Drop Top eyeing continued success in 2021.

February 9, 2021  | By Janice Young | London Jamaican label Drop Top Records is excited to start the year strong with new releases with Jamaican Dancehall artistes. The newly minted record label headed by CEO. Rowan Melhado, known as Drop Top, began recording in 2019 with the first project called the Drop Dem Riddim. The compilation featured artistes like Sikka Rymes, Popcaan, Chronic Law and Vybz Kartel with his mega hit Day Rave.

Originally the Spanish Town St Catharine native never thought of himself as a career producer and was focused on promoting his ‘Swag Shop’ Clarks shoe store in Kingston Jamaica with the Drop Dem riddim. The success of the singles and corresponding videos from the project however made the London based businessman change gears and catapult the label to a sought after brand for 2020.

I’ve always been connected to music and grew up around artistes like Vybz Kartel, but never really thought of myself as a producer until the Drop Dem Riddin became a hit. This confirmed that I really had an ear for hit records so now I’m releasing many more singles and we aren’t slowing down anytime soon,’ Drop Top explained.

Last year the label released trending singles with Vybz Kartel, Chronic Law, Popcaan, Daddy1, RDX, Quada, Tomny Lee, Dexta Daps and others. The label also signed the first artiste under a management deal with Magnum Kings and Queens’s contestant Candy Price.

I’m a lover of dancehall and reggae music and right now I believe the females in Dancehall need the strength. I’m investing in our culture with the talented young female Candy Price, so far we have recorded a few singles and we are building                                                                    her catalog.” Drop Top added.

With the shutdown of entertainment still in effect in Jamaica, Drop Top believes music isn’t getting its full opportunity. However, the producer still believes in making quality music for dancehall fans worldwide to experience.

Since the start of the year The Drop Top label has released singles like Relevant by Popcaan, Big up yuh self by Squash as well as the official video for Pop Style by Vybz Kartel. He will be releasing a single with dancehall trending talent TJ called Water Truck as well as an all-female riddim project that will feature; Candy Price, Queen Lady Gansta, Lisa Hyper, Yanique Curvy Diva and others.
