Inquest Date into the Death of Kwasi Skene-Peters Announced
Dr. Bonnie Burke, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Kwasi Skene-Peters.
Mr. Skene-Peters, 21, died on July 25, 2015 in Toronto of injuries sustained when he was shot by an officer of the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Skene-Peters’ death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last eight days and hear from approximately 25 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at the Coroners Courts, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. John Carlisle will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
