SCARBOROUGH-BASED WRITING PROGRAM PUBLISHES 18 NEW YOUNG AUTHORS IN ELEVENTH ANTHOLOGY!

The Reading Partnership is excited to launch their eleventh anthology, The Jumbled up Stories. This anthology features the original stories and art of 18 kids from George B Little and Joseph Brant Public Schools in East Scarborough.

A collaboration between The Reading Partnership and Story Planet, 360° Stories provides kids ages 9-12 with a month-long experience of imagining, writing, and editing their own stories and then seeing them published in a gorgeous book. With mentorship from community-based authors and illustrators, kids are encouraged to find their voices and share their stories with the world.

This past fall, kids gathered at the Clark Centre for the Arts where they gained inspiration from the scenic Guild Park and Gardens as well as each other. We also made an exciting addition to the program by having our first-ever ambassador, Maya Ameyaw. Maya is a published author and community arts facilitator. Throughout the program, she shared her experiences with the young authors and crafted the anthology’s inspiring foreword.

“As a kid who didn’t have a program like this growing up, it’s really important to see the future generation of writers being able to cultivate their craft in a way where they feel comfortable, they have people who are supporting them, and they are supported by their peers. I always really liked writing, but there never felt like there was a special place to do it, inside an avenue like this, and that’s why it’s so special.” – Maya Ameyaw

The program culminates with the highly anticipated book launch where the young authors are joined by family, friends, and community members to celebrate their work. There will be a keynote speech from our ambassador, readings, author Q&As, an exclusive first look at the anthology and a chance to purchase a copy.

“It is so wonderful to see how excited our daughter is to share her writing and illustrations with the world,” one caregiver expresses. “What a privilege for her to work with professionals. We are very happy for her and grateful for this program. I can definitely see a book deal in her future!”
