PM Holness

“It has been said that some of our investments in national security were misplaced. To clarify, national security is the ability of the State to pursue its legitimate mandate; internally within its territories and borders, and externally within the community of nations.

Citizens should be able to enjoy and benefit from their rights, freedoms, values, and assets with an assurance that there is an arrangement of resources and strategies that can counter and overcome threats to the enjoyment of those rights and liberties.

To fix the local problem, we must arrange our resources and strategies in such a way to control our borders, ports, maritime space, cyberspace, air space and maintain within our border public order. That is why we have made the investments we have, in the way we have.”

Background

The statement from the Jamaican PM comes as a response to questions poses by a local journalist during a one on one interview with the Prime Minister in which the journalist states that the 3 biggest issues facing Jamaica right now are the 3 C’s, (Covid, Crime and Corruption).  The journalist also questions the fact that although investments in crime are raising through the roof crime also continues to rise.
