BILL CLINTON ACCEPTS JAZZ AWARD

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz has given an award to a man the institute believes raised the profile of jazz in America: former President Bill Clinton. Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock presented the award to Clinton in a ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday. Clinton says the institute gives many young people a chance to learn about jazz. He says most of them won’t be jazz artists, but he adds, “Sometimes frustrated jazz musicians wind up with another life that works out pretty well.” Performers at the ceremony included Wayne Shorter, Jimmy Heath, Joshua Redman, Pharrell (fah-REL’) WIlliams, Dianne Reeves, John Mayer, Taj Mahal and Kevin Spacey.
