CaribbeanTales International Film Festival Celebrates The Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine

Toronto, ON – CaribbeanTales International Film Festival (CTFF) celebrates its 18th year with a very special Awards night, the inaugural presentation of the Augustine Award of Excellence. The evening will honor and celebrate the Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine on her 86th birthday. The event takes place Saturday, September 9th, at the Fleck Dance Theater, 207 Queens Quay W, Toronto, ON. Doors open at 7pm.

The very first Augustine Award of Excellence will be presented to legendary saxophonist and band leader, Roy Cape, founder of Roy Cape All Stars and the Roy Cape Foundation. The Trinidad-based Cape is an accomplished arranger, composer, and writer, with an illustrious musical and philanthropic career spanning nearly six decades. CTFF will start the inaugural award celebration with a screening of Iconography: Roy Cape by Mikhail Gibbings. The docu-series reveals untold stories of musical giants and cultural icons in Trinidad and Tobago, through the voices of the legends themselves. The screening will be followed by a special performance by the Roy Cape All Stars featuring Ossie Gurley and the band. This event is co-presented by CTFF and OCPA (Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes).

CTFF is proud to recognize the Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine with the appropriately named “Augustine Award of Excellence.”  The Hon. Dr. Augustine is Canada’s first Black Female Member of Parliament and a respected Canadian Icon.  Her accomplishments are many and far reaching, including a presentation at Cannes, where she recently walked the Red carpet.…. Only the beginning.

Please join them, Saturday, September 9th as we celebrate excellence with two iconic persons who have distinguished themselves in politics and music.
