Jamaica Celebrates International Reggae Day

Today, the Caribbean Island of Jamaica and others around the world are celebrating International Reggae Day. The theme for this years International Reggae Day is “1Love”.  International Reggae Day is celebrated on July 1st every year.

The Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness released the following statement in celebration of the event.

Reggae has become a language of social consciousness which has influenced popular culture across the globe.

Today as we observe International Reggae Day, let me use this opportunity to commend the hardworking and dedicated stakeholders within the industry.

Reggae music has the ability to bring people together; it is Jamaica’s gift to the world, and we are exceedingly proud of this legacy.

There is no question that the industry has made significant contributions to the growth and development of brand Jamaica.

The theme for this year’s International Reggae Day is ‘1Love’ which, in a time like this, aims to inspire and foster a sense of hope and togetherness for our people.
