MSM Remembers Veteran Journalist Amanda Davis at Annual Women With Heart Luncheon

Davis’ Story to Be Shared Along With Heart Disease Survivors

ATLANTAJan. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Morehouse School of Medicine will remember longtime Atlanta journalist Amanda Davis at this year’s Women With Heart Luncheon. Davis, who was a member of WWH, passed away on December 27, 2017 after suffering a massive stroke.

At this year’s luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 31, an empty chair under a spotlight will represent Davis. The story of her tragic loss will be shared to bring attention to heart disease, which affects nearly half of all African-American women.

Amanda Davis was a beloved member of the Atlanta community and worked tirelessly for issues she cared about, one of those being women’s heart health. The luncheon is an opportunity to share Ms. Davis’ story and remember her and all she has done as an advocate for raising awareness about cardiovascular health,” said MSM President and Dean Valerie Montgomery Rice, M.D.

Three women also affected by heart disease will share their stories at the event at the Georgia Aquarium, 225 Baker Street NW, Atlanta, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The luncheon is part of a week of events designed to bring awareness to heart health. Other events include the Healthy Heart Breakfast for Men on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and free healthy heart screenings for seniors on MSM’s campus on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Women With Heart is a volunteer support organization established in 2009 at MSM and promotes healthy lifestyles, increases community awareness about heart health and cardiovascular disease, as well as raising funds for student scholarships. A tribute campaign in Davis name was launched in December.
