Consuls-General of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago Host Cricket Rematch in Brampton

Diamond Jubilee Cricket ReMatch set for August 19 at Andrew McCandless Park

July 31, 2023, Toronto, Canada _ Cricket enthusiasts in Canada can look forward to an exhilarating day of action on Saturday, August 19, when the Consulates-General of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago present the Diamond Jubilee Cricket ReMatch at Andrew McCandless Park in Brampton.

Building upon the overwhelming support received last year, when both island nations celebrated their 60th independence anniversaries, this year’s event promises even more excitement and community engagement as Jamaica takes on Trinidad and Tobago. 

Tracey Ramsubagh-Mannette, Acting Consul-General for Trinidad and Tobago noted that the partnership serves to strengthen the bond between Consular representatives, municipal authorities, and the Caribbean diaspora in Toronto, “We are thrilled to join forces in staging this rematch with the support of our sponsors and the community. 

Consul-General Lincoln Downer of the Jamaican Consulate in Toronto remarked, “Cricket, as an integral part of our shared legacy, holds a special place in the hearts of many. Our joint celebration on the cricket pitch brings together the Caribbean community and our allies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.”

The cricketers are Jamaican and T&T nationals living in Canada who play throughout the season and George Maharaj, Cricket Coach and event co-ordinator expects to see top innings. “In addition to being seasoned players they are first-rate ambassadors for their countries.”

Team Manager for Jamaica, Horace Hamilton, is eager for a win, “We are coming out with passion against a competitive side. We are in championship mode.”

The Diamond Jubilee Cricket ReMatch runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Gates open at 12 noon and admission is free for all patrons. 

In addition to watching the veteran cricketers square off on the pitch, attendees will enjoy music from a live DJ, Tassa drumming, prizes and giveaways from sponsors including Grace Foods Canada, JN Bank Representative Office Canada, JN Money Services, Moorland Development, Jamaica Tourist Board Canada, Caribbean Airlines, Drupati’s, Fat Boy Coconut Water, Peardrax, and Victoria Mutual Building Society.
