The international comedy showcase Comedy On The Rocks, orchestrated by known comedian and actor Christopher Johnny Daley through his Johnny Live Production company, will be staged for the first time on December 17 at Pier One in Montego Bay.
The showcase, which intends to be an annual effort, will see overseas based comedians, Alfred Kainga and Mark Trinidad, share the stage with the hottest Jamaican acts; Dufton Shepherd, Leighton Smith, Pretty Boy Floyd and Christopher Johnny Daley himself, geared at delivering quality standup comedy sets to a large seated audience.
Chris Daley sees this event as testament to the growth of the comedy landscape in Jamaica over the years; he was inspired by the many international showcases he has performed at worldwide and wanting to take the same international execution to Jamaica. Daley chose the second city, Montego Bay, as the launch pad for Comedy On The Rocks because of the numerous requests from comedy lovers there.
“We have had 2 successful stagings of our weekly Comedy Bar series in Kingston and Montego Bay has been requesting this series for months now. We decided to up the ante and give western Jamaica a full showcase with Comedy On The Rocks, ” Johnny explained
With Kingston having a plethora of yearly comedy events in December as well, it was also strategic to take this particular showcase to Montego Bay for the beginning of the festive season where comedy events in the west are rare especially those with overseas comedians performing.
“I chose Alfred Kainga and Mark Trinidad because we wanted comedians with a proven track record and I personally have shared the stage with them over the years and know they can deliver electrifying sets that will connect with Jamaicans and visitors to Montego Bay alike come December 17,‘ Chris added
The Comedy On The Rocks event will be held on the grounds of Pier One in Montego Bay and will be hosted by the dynamic radio personality, Ron Muchette and female powerhouse comedic hostess, Elva.
