Today, the Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced Jamaica’s plans to become a Republic.  In a meeting in Jamaica with Prince William, the Jamaican PM informed the Duke of Cambridge that Jamaica plans to become fully independent.

The Prime Minister took to social media to share the news.

“I was delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton to Jamaica and to the Office of the Prime Minister for a courtesy call this morning.

Jamaica has grown and matured over the last 60 years and with this maturity has come the burgeoning desire for full political independence and self determination.

In this our 60th year of Independence, we are very proud of our history and what we have so far achieved. However, we recognize that there is much more to be done to realize our true potential as a nation.

I expressed to the Duke, that in this regard, it is inevitable that we will move towards becoming a republic in fulfillment of the will of the people of Jamaica and our ambitions of becoming an independent, developed and prosperous country.” tweeted the Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness.

In terms of Jamaican pride we have to agree with the Prime Minister.  Jamaicans should be able to make our own decisions. Its is a great posture to take and we hope this actually comes true.
