Jamaica Moves Forward With National Identification System

Today, Jamaican PM Andrew Holness visited the National Identification Enrollment Center where he toured the facility and released the following brief statement on Jamaica’s National Identification System.

“My first engagement for the new year took me on a tour of the National Identification System (NIDS) Enrolment Centre. We toured the production centre, vault area, and enrolment site. The team also demonstrated how the cards will be printed and distributed.

In our 60th year of independence, I believe it is imperative that we fully institutionalise our National Identification System. Every Jamaican should be guaranteed an identity; this is especially important because the emerging world requires us to articulate and manoeuvre in a digital space.

The National Identification System will be fully operational in our 60th year.

I hope that we will have a significant number of Jamaicans identified adequately through the National Identification System by the end of the year,” said the PM.
