Kingston Mayor Advocates Bipartisan Approach for Effective Governance

Mayor Swaby Emphasizes Collaboration between Political Parties to Serve Citizens of Kingston and St. Andrew

Mayor Andrew Swaby of Kingston has announced a significant shift in governance strategy, advocating for a bipartisan approach to decision-making to better serve the citizens of Kingston and St. Andrew. Addressing the monthly meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) on April 9, Mayor Swaby highlighted the need for collaboration between the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) in fulfilling their duties.

With both parties holding an equal number of councillors in the KSAMC, Mayor Swaby emphasized the importance of transcending political divides for the benefit of the community. Despite being selected from the PNP’s slate of representatives, Mayor Swaby stressed that the mandate from the residents of Kingston and St. Andrew was clear: both political parties must work together to serve the best interests of the constituents.

In his address, Mayor Swaby stated, “Both political parties must work together in the execution of our duties and must fulfill the roles in service to the residents of Kingston and St. Andrew. In order to achieve this objective, this Administration must change the usual way in which decisions are made; therefore, moving forward we will be adopting a bipartisan approach.”

This decision marks a departure from traditional partisan politics and signals a commitment to inclusivity and cooperation in governance. By consulting with the Opposition and seeking consensus, Mayor Swaby aims to ensure that the voices of all citizens are heard and considered in decision-making processes.
