Mackie Conscious Cautions Artistes

July 27, 2023 | By Supa Pea |

Rastafarian singer Mackie Conscious, a seasoned Reggae Sumfest performer, is placing, especially young artistes under the radar.

“I would like to warn exuberant artistes to be wary of their audience, some of whom are teenagers.

“We all know the pressure that young artistes are experiencing in their daily lives; they want as many people to listen to them, and often-times they sway with the excitement going on the grounds. At the end of the day, ask yourself, what have I gained?”

This comes against the background of a few slippages concerning artistes who utter offensive words at the recent Reggae Sumfest show 2023.

“I was recently speaking to a very talented, young artiste, from MoBay who is trying to make a name in music. He went as far as having his music and videos on YouTube to promote himself.

Then, suddenly one day he sent me a song he had done which had my head spinning; it was the reverse of what he has been doing for years.

“In short, he was telling me slackness pays.

“When I asked if he is concerned about the next generation digesting so much gun lyrics he laughingly said that that was not his concern, so long that he was making money.

“This now leads me to another artiste Beres Hammond, who continues to pour congratulations on my catalogue of songs.

” He (Beres) told me, while I was backstage at a Rebel Salute show, that he was lucky to slip through the gates before the music began to change.”

That was what inspired Mackie Conscious to write the song, “Mi Nuh Lucky.”

Mackie Conscious is imploring young artistes to think like Marcus Garvey and make their music a powerful force in changing lives .

“As producers the emphasis is to guide young artistes in making music which can last for decades.

“Make a commitment that you will be guided by the principles of safe music, which will help our families, communities and country by extension”.

Mackie Conscious is confident that, despite tribulations and setbacks there will definitely be a brighter Day for all those who believe in good music.
