“This is our first year of Carnival City and the response has been fabulous,” exclaims Gerard Weekes, House of Culture Founder and Producer of Carnival City. “We wanted to provide a space to celebrate, learn and encourage everyone to experience the Caribbean right here in Durham. Unfortunately, weather has the final say in outdoor events and we can’t have participants in an open air space during thunderstorms.”

“This is an opportunity for those who missed out on the carnival last weekend to experience the pageantry of the King and Queen competition, jam to local soca artists, attend the Durham Carifest and Junior Carnival as well the steelpan competition that closes out the festival,” explains Joan Pierre, Carnival City Organizer and Founding Director, House of Culture. “You don’t want to miss out twice!”
