Poetic Perspective: The Windrush Touch ….

So far it is the negative focus
Which caused some raucous …
That has caught our attention
But that is not the only opinion

Windrush still on our mind …
The unfolding is so unkind …
Man’s inhumanity to humankind
Unparalleled one cannot find

There has been a moral impact
To which we should not block …
Some folks still get choked …
That painful injustice evoked

A known Britisher it did touch
One with whom I am in touch
Visibly showing the blush …
“I wish not be associated thus”

She then continued her lament
On the sordid Windrush event
“Do not reveal my identity …
This incident tramples dignity …

I am ashamed of the mess …
Such we should all detest ….
The whole issue has a poor taste
In fact a downright disgrace …

I am proud to be British ….
We are not known to be brutish
Possessing a stiff upper lip …
But on morality, a firm grip …”

Tears ran down her cheek
The effect the scandal did wreak
“This is quite a calamity …
I dare say, a human tragedy …

It takes me around the bend …
One I do not wish to defend …
My race, I want to defend …
But Windrush does deeply offend

These people came to restore …
After the bombing furore …
Devastated by the German blitz
Britain was far from bliss …

West Indians made us thrive
They came with skill, and drive
Left their comfort zone …
Often times breadwinner alone

To now treat them as if a reject
Is something we should detest
They are entitled to legal status
Treated as if one of us …

Some denied jobs, health care
The thought gives me the scare
Shut them out in the cold! …
Inhumanity to behold ….

May, Amber gave much anger …
Unable to appreciate disaster
They came, saw, dishonored …
On Windrush many blundered …”

We hope it will end well …
Those stranded will rebel …
Teach the Home Office empathy
So as to end this abject atrocity

Ah, ah, ah ….
