DANCEHALL got a much-needed adrenaline shot in the United Kingdom last summer thanks to deejay Stylo G’s hit single Soundbwoy.

It got heavy rotation on major radio stations including Kiss FM, Radio One and 1Xtra.

Stylo G, whose real name is Jason McDermott, is in Kingston promoting his latest release, Move Back. A video for the song, directed by Ras Kassa, was filmed in downtown Kingston on Wednesday.

Originally from Spanish Town, Stylo G migrated to the UK in 2000. The 28-year-old entertainer created a stir in that country’s underground scene with songs like Call Mi a Yardie, My Yout and Press Up.

Released last year by London-based 3Beat Records, Soundbwoy pushed him into the UK mainstream.

“Last year was a crazy year for me. It was a crazy experience touring Europe, performing on the major festivals including Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, being nominated for two MOBO Awards and three Urban Music Awards, and scoring a Top 20 hit on the UK chart,” Stylo G told the Jamaica Observer.

Soundbwoy was followed by Badd which featured veteran deejay Sister Nancy. That song went number one in Switzerland and Germany.

Move Back is produced by Northwest London duo Ill Blu. It will be officially released in February.

Stylo G is working on his debut album which is expected to be released this year by 3Beat Records.
