Dancehall singjay Kevin Daley, better known as Tatik, has poured real emotion in his latest single Return If Possible (RIP) produced by Zj West for Yo West Productions and Audley Gordon for AGM Official. The artiste, who was a crowd favorite on the 2017 staging of talent competition Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, considers himself an artiste motivated by pain and knew it was inevitable that an RIP song be added to his growing catalog.
“I sing a lot of pain songs so a RIP song was inevitable, but I wanted mine to be more than the regular gone-too-soon kind of song. I voiced the song as if I’m experiencing the death of someone in that moment, so it comes out as a real crying out kind of song. There is real passion in what people experience in that moment so I have to give their pain real justice,” Tatik shared.
Although he admits that he hasn’t experienced this situation directly, he has seen a lot of the pain from others who have lost someone and would give anything for them to Return If Possible. Events became even more real to Tatik after the recent stabbing death of a student at his Alma Mater – Kingston Technical High School.
“People can relate to this song without a doubt because it’s based on real life events and real emotions. Even the recent stabbing at KT is a good example of what people go through emotionally when someone is dying right in front of them and they feel so helpless. Persons can be so concerned with things like blood on their car seat so they refuse to help save a life,” Tatik added
Tatik, who placed fourth in the Magnum Kings and Queens competition in 2017, believes he gained valuable exposure, experience and connections through the platform which has now taken him to where he is in his career. With Return If Possible garnering great feedback since its release earlier this month, Tatik sees only growth and more success in his future. Tatik and his team are currently working on completing visuals for Return If Possible soon.
