New York, New York — January 2016 (Irish and Chin) — It’s no secret that Canada is a hotbed of fresh and talented sound systems. But it’s only so often that these aspiring sounds permeate International markets, resulting in most of their presence being limited to Canada. As a part of providing promising sound systems an opportunity to compete on a national platform, while attracting International visibility, popular sound clash promoters Irish and Chin and Jill present Canada Rumble on January 23, 2015 at La Victoria in North York. The event, a part of Irish and Chin’s Rumble series that targets markets rich in sound system culture, will find seven of Canada’s finest sounds fighting for World exposure. Namely, one of the sounds on the fiery line up, which includes Stepa Choice, Don Rankin, King Turbo, Klymaxx, Brimstone Gold, Little Thunder and Outcast, will become the CA Rumble national champion and earn a slot on World Clash, an annual sound system competition heralded as the super bowl of sound clash.

Canada Rumble is especially anticipated as it’s the first clash of it’s kind in Canada. Moreover, it helps show recognition and appreciation to Canada’s thriving sounds. Frankly, the clash will allow the crop of talented sound men to have a “seat at the table” as far as International sound clash goes. With this in mind, Canada’s clash fans and sound fraternity are in overdrive, awaiting their favorite sounds to take the stage. Pre-existing rivalries between feisty sounds on the line up and those currently brewing have also peaked the interest of followers.

“Canada has always been a strong sound system market, however the country has never been given a chance at international exposure….I am hoping that the Canadian sounds bring their best to the rumble stage,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne of Irish and Chin. “Every minute counts when you compete at this level and there is no telling what opportunities will present themselves after a great performance.”

This line up features sounds who boast numerous accolades in their favor including impressive catalogues, witty mic skills, solid fan bases and importantly some notable clash victories. With such a skilled cadre of sounds, the competitors will be forced to excel because without a doubt, only the strongest will survive. We issue a strong “waaaar” advisory to patrons, as the Canada Rumble contenders will be musically armed and dangerous. Ever since the line up was announced, the participating sounds have been feverishly amassing their dub plate arsenals.

Canada is home to many great and accomplished sounds,” says the Canada Rumble co-promoter Jill. “But our clash market is stagnant for numerous reasons, some of which are self inflicted…… this sound clash is special, as it will allow sounds to work together to show the world that Canada can also be home of champion sounds.”

Having a Canadian sound compete on the World Clash stage ultimately grants Canadian sound system culture the visibility that they need to generate International bookings, while earning a new level of respect. Canada will finally be getting a “make or break” opportunity to prove that they can contend on a world stage just as good as any other country. Jill adds “the seven sounds will compete on an equal playing field and what’s so vital to our success as a country is to respect and support the winner 100% as our national representative. With an entire country backing them, that sound will be unstoppable.”

“Sounds must realize it’s important to win,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne in closing. “However, they must also realize that a stellar, memorable performance can truthfully generate multiple champions.”

Irish and Chin have been involved in sound clash promotions for nearly 20 years. Based in New York and Jamaica, the popular promoters have provided infinite exposure to sound clash and sound system culture through key events such as World Clash, Death Before Dishonor, U.S. Rumble and Reeewind to name a few. Recently, the promoters were featured in a Billboard magazine article on sound clash, which highlighted their November 2015 David Rodigan and Barry G 30th Anniversary (commemorating the historic 1985 Empire Skating Rink sound clash) event in New York and their client Mighty Crown’s stunning “3 Di Hard Way” clash victory aboard the 2015 Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise.
