2 time champion Rafael Nadal seeded No. for Wimbledon in line with world ranking
LONDON _ Two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal has been seeded No. 10 for the grass-court Grand Slam, meaning he could face one of the top contenders as early as the fourth round.
The All England Club stuck mainly to the ATP rankings in the seedings announced Wednesday for Wimbledon, which starts Monday.
Nadal, who won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, has slipped to 10th in the rankings. He lost in the first round of Queen’s Club last week, after winning on grass in Stuttgart the previous week.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 1, followed by Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Kei Nishikori. Canadian Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., is the No. 7 seed.
In the women’s seedings, Serena Williams is No. 1, followed by defending champion Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, and Caroline Wozniacki. Eugenie Bouhard of Westmount, Que., is seeded No. 12.
