The Kamala Harris Family Background

We enclose a unique article entitled “Reflections” as seen through the eyes of now USA, VP Kamala Harris’s father Donald Harris. VP Kamala Harris is a Jamaican native who has made history by becoming the first person of colour and also by having a mother of Asian descent to rise to the level of Vice President of the United States of America (USA). Her father Donald Harris is of course Jamaican, an educator and the author of this reflection. All rights reserved to him and we are indebted to him for his scholarship and insight into his family and their history as seen through his eyes.

Kamala’s Mother

It should be noted that unfortunately this reflection gives us no insight into Kamala’s Mother who we are told is of Asian descent and who was married to Donald Harris, Kamala’s father. We know precious little about her background and other facets of her life. She no doubt has played a pivotal role in this historic event of producing the first mixed race VP in the USA in Kamala Harris, who has risen to become one of the most visible persons of colour in likely the most powerful nation in the world. This is a most significant achievement in US political history.

Race Relations In USA

We note the USA’s checkered race relations history and involvement in the dehumanizing slave trade which brought persons of African decent who were bought and confined to mainly plantation labour as slaves.

George Floyd

The recent conviction of Derek Chauvin for murdering George Floyd speaks volumes of the race relations issues in the USA. Blacks are still seen by many as second class or lower class citizens in the United States Of America. So the elevation of Kamala Harris to VP in the USA is therefore most significant and can only be a positive move which the potential to improve race relations in the USA in particular. This could also send a strong signal elsewhere as communication can be quite rapid and makes the global community not as distance as was previously considered.
