Dr. Dayton Campbell Under Scrutiny

The scandal rocking the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has deepened.  He finds himself in the middle of a deepening court battle. A defence has been filed in court against his deformation lawsuit.

Dr. Dayton Campbell has denied the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him.

Activist

One Ms. Cross, a PNP activist accused Dr. Dayton Campbell of sexual misconduct involving alleged underaged girls. In Jamaica to have sexual relations with a female under 16 is a criminal offence. Such is called pedophilia.

Lawsuit

Lawyers for Dr. Dayton Campbell had filed a deformation lawsuit accusing Ms. Cross of defaming  their client Dr. Dayton Campbell without credible evidence on the internet. Ms. Cross and other women who have accused Dr. Dayton Campbell of sexual  misconduct, are said to be bloggers.

Internet

The internet was the medium used to allegedly defame Dr. D. Campbell which seems to be the means being used these days.

Police

The police closed their files on the complaint in April 2021. They said that if credible evidence were to come to hand they were prepared to reopen the investigation.

Counter Suit

Affidavits have since been filed in Jamaica’s Supreme (High) Court in her (Ms. Cross’s) defence in May 2021.  Three women who claim to have been underaged at the time when they had Sexual relations with Dr. Dayton Campbell have come forward. This is illegal under Jamaican law.  One said she was 14 years old when she had sex with Dr. Dayton Campbell.

Commentary

If these allegations are true about General Secretary, then this is a serious indicement on Dr. Dayton Campbell. We await the court battle.

Innocence

Each person charged for an offence is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. We wish Dr. Dayton Campbell a fair trial.
