Jamaica Celebrates International Reggae Day, July 1, 2020

Today is also the anniversary of the death of Dennis Brown. He was an Internationally acclaimed superstar and reggae ambassador. Gone too soon. He had hits like “Here I Come” a crowd favourite. ” No man is an Island” is among some of his hits … to name a few.

On this celebration of International Reggae Day, we salute all whom have made this form of music so popular and famous both locally and Internationally.

Today is actually 21 years since we lost Dennis Brown.

From “Jamrock to Hip Hop”, the birth of this popular genre came through the advent of reggae. It is no secret that reggae has had a great influence on the world music scene.

Bob Marley is a known reggae superstar whose impact on the music scene is most impactful. His song “One Love” was selected as the song of the year on the world scene.

Theme “From Jamrock to Hip Hop” is most appropriate this year.

The Minister of Entertainment, Sports and Culture the Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange issued an audio statement on International Reggae Day.
