JUTC Prepares For COVID-19

April 15, 2020 | By Hopeton O’Connor Dennie |

As the pandemic takes takes the world like a wildfire we all have to be prepared for same. The Transit system in Jamaica W.I. is no different.

Attached pictures show:1) disinfectant dispenser 2) Bus driver with mask collecting fare from a male passenger. This was at the Transport Centre in Half-Way-Tree, near to Kingston the Capital.

Unfortunately the dispenser on the bus that I boarded, was out of disinfectant. Was it there only for show? We hope not. Social Distancing and other recommended things to fight COVID 19 were in place. The transit company is called:Jamaica Urban Transit Company. (JUTC).

Ridership

Transit companies in Toronto and even Vancouver are all losing money due to falling ridership. JUTC is no different in Jamaica. Government subsidies same annually.

Commentary

We must commend JUTC for its efforts at fighting the COVID 19 pandemic and ask them to try harder. Make sure disinfectant is put in all their dispensers on their buses if they are serious about fighting this COVID 19 virus. Cleaners were observed cleaning the rails and high trafficked areas. The bathrooms were highly sanitized and did smell well.

I really enjoyed my ride to my destination.
