Karen Smith, Songbird Not Seen In Public Lately.

June 14, 2021 | Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

Internationally acclaimed song bird Karen Smith has not been seen publicly. We are not sure who or where to search or ask for her. She does bring to the stage a great clear voice that of excellence and a style which can be best described as graciousness.

Her mom is an acomplished church organist, who not only exudes charm, but has real talent. She plays for the St. James Anglican Parish Church, Church Street, Montego Bay.

Courtleigh Auditorium

It was at the Courtleigh Auditorium about three years ago that I saw Karen Smith live in concert. She was magnificent.  Her golden voice was superb.  Since then little has been heard of her. It was a Charity event to support the St John’s Anglican Church on Mannings Hill Road in St. Andrew. The event was well supported by attendance and artistes on stage.

Cabaret

Karen Smith is known to be active on the hotel circuit as a cabaret act.  With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of which has been devastating … it may not be strange not to hear of her in that space. Entertainment has been hard hit by the pandemic.

Rush

I had the honour of purchasing from her in 2017 her latest album named “Rush. The album has 14 songs on it.  She even autographed this album for me. I was honoured. The album is produced by: Willie Lindo, Executive Producer: Jackie. Jackson, Associate Producer: Paul Douglas.

This is a very easy album to listen to. The wide ranging subject matters covered makes it a most valuable album to own.

Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie is a poet and veteran journalist who has International exposure. We wish her all the success. She is an outstanding Jamaican who has contributed much to our culture.
