The penultimate night of the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) General Assembly saw some powerful performances and concluded with a message that would stir any lethargic spirit to vibrancy once more.

A soul stirring praise and worship session set the perfect mood for the gospel acts that followed. The Bethel Steel Orchestra showed their almost 20 years experience as they enticed with some beautiful sounds.

Laughter is good medicine, and there was no shortage of it when teacher and comedian Leighton Smith took centrestage. The funny wisecracks he delivered was in total contrast to his nonchalant demeanour as he reeled off one comedic drama, one after another, taking jabs at the COVID-19 situation, using funerals to enjoy a free meal and questioning the reason some persons cry at funerals – implying things are not always what they seem.

Smith easily entertained as his punchlines connected!

Shanel Powel, Ann Marie Laing and Nathaniel White all represented with some powerful renditions to the over 1,000 persons that logged on to the platform to enjoy the concert that was held at the Bethel Baptist Church off Hope Road.

Several pastors also gave reports on the outreach, they have been doing in addressing the needs brought on by the pandemic.

Pastor Travis Drummond proved to be the icing on the cake for the night as he delivered a powerful sermon, chock full of encouraging words for those who might have been thinking of giving up.

Referencing Jesus’s healing of the ten lepers, he reminded his audience that no situation is ever beyond God’s control.

“No matter what your situation, God is still in control. Just like He healed the lepers and the blind man, no matter what it is God can deliver,” he said, singling out those who felt like they had no identity, felt like they are alone and of no value and robbed of integration and fellowship.

The assuring words he offered is that Jesus is still there to make a difference.

The JBU General Assembly started on Wednesday and concluded on Sunday, February 28.
