Non-Profit Organization “The Ocean Clean Up” in Jamaica Testing Technologies to rid the Oceans of Plastic

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness announces initiative to help rid the oceans of plastic.

“In the coming months, @TheOceanCleanup, a non-profit organization that seeks to develop and scale technologies to rid the oceans of plastic, will be testing the combination of Interceptor Barriers and an Interceptor Tender (Interceptors 008, 009, 010) in Jamaica.

The Interceptor Barrier locations are as follows: – Rae Town Gully – Kingston Pen Gully – Barnes Gully I commend this initiative which is of critical importance in safeguarding our ocean, among other crucial actions to be taken in the race to address climate change.

Jamaica has taken substantial steps in relation to environmental protection in general and climate change mitigation in particular. In 2020, The Ocean Clean Up was awarded US$1 Million to combat Jamaica’s urban plastic debris.” said the PM.
