Peter Bunting Blast CMU On Corruption

May 28, 2020 | By Hopeton O’Connor-Dennie |

The MP for Central Manchester who represents the People’s National Party (PNP) has blasted the leadership of the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU). He was commenting on reports that a million dollars were approved for the procurement of services at the CMU. He said this highlighted the “corruption” at the CMU.

This is despite Mr. Peter Bunting not able to detect a JA$400 million dollars fraud at the PNP controlled Municipal Parish Council in Manchester, Mandeville where Peter Bunting himself is the Member of Parliament.

Condemn Fraud

How could this massive fraud have taken place with him not detecting same? Peter Bunting has failed to publicly condemn this fraud which has seen five former officers convicted and await sentencing on July 27, 2020. It is public knowledge that cheques drawn to bogus contractors who under oath in court stated that they “collected cash without doing any work”. The parish court Judge Ann Marie Granger said she found the witnesses “credible”.

This happened for about four years before detection. Mr. Sanja Elliott has been named as the mastermind of the Manchester Parish Council fraud matter.

Commentary

If MP Bunting did not know he should have. This fraud happened
under Peter Bunting’s watch. Should he not be held responsible?
