Bipartisan Vote To Impeach President Trump

When President Donald J. Trump was impeached last time it was basically a one sided affair. This time history was created. Meaning this time Republicans have joined the Democrats and voted in the House of Representatives in Trump’s second impeachment. No Republican voted against Trump to impeach (him) the first crime around.  The Democrats have the majority in the House of Representatives, hence the vote carried. The Senate on the other hand is controlled by the Republicans by a slim majority. Their slim majority makes a great difference in conviction or not. Two third of those voting in the Senate is needed to convict.

Partisan

It is indeed historic that the 45th President of the United States  Donald Trump has again been impeached. This time around for inciting a mob and for stating falsely that the election was stolen from him.  His supporters invaded Capitol Hill (seat of the US Parliament) on his urging. It should be noted that impeachment is not a conviction. It can be likened to what we all know in the streets as a criminal charge.  Conviction only takes place in the Senate. As stated above a conviction requires a two thirds majority of those Senators present voting to convict.

Objective

In the Senate the Republicans do not have to be objective to acquit Donald J. Trump.  It is the votes that matter. That is as stated two thirds majority.  Should the 2/3 majority be achieved, Trump could also be barred with an application to this effect … from again holding political office.  Impeachment does not guarantee conviction.  Neither does the evidence alone.  It is now up to the Senators to vote to convict. Will they do so?  Voting to impeach does not mean the same Senators will vote to convict.  We need to get up to speed with the process.

Third President

Trump is the third President to be impeached.  He has gotten the distinction though of being the first to be impeached twice.

Who voted to Impeach?

Among the persons of note who voted to impeach President Trump is Dick Chaney’s daughter Liz Chaney who is chair of the Republican Committee. She is considered to be a conservative.

Commentary

There have been numerous negative reactions to Trump’s impeachment.  Will he be convicted?

Seventeen Republicans need to vote with the Democratic Senators to convict Trump.
